chequemate lets you see a restaurant bill and pay some or all of it from your phone. The bill is read from the restaurant’s own point-of-sale system.

The meal is between you and the restaurant. The prices, the food, the service, and any dispute about any of them are theirs, not ours.

When you confirm a payment you authorise a charge for the amount shown, including any tip and any convenience fee. Payments are taken by a licensed payment processor.

A bill cannot be settled for less than it comes to. Where several people pay toward one table, each payment covers the part that person chose; it is for your table to agree who is covering what.

A convenience fee may be added to a guest payment. When it applies it is shown to you before you confirm, as part of the amount you are authorising. If you would rather not pay it, you can settle with the restaurant the way you always could.

A tip is optional and additional to the bill. It is recorded separately from bill money and passed to the restaurant for its staff. It is never treated as settlement of the bill itself.

Refunds for the meal are a matter for the restaurant, since the bill and the goods are theirs.

If a payment was taken twice, or taken incorrectly, that is ours. Contact us with the restaurant and roughly when you were there and we will investigate and put it right.

Do not attempt to interfere with the service, access bills that are not for your table, or use chequemate for anything unlawful.

We work to keep the service running but we do not guarantee it is available without interruption. If chequemate is unavailable, the restaurant can take payment the way it always has.
